Everything around here is either tied with a gold bow, has antlers appliqued or ironed-on, or has been glittered. Gold, antlers and glitter seem to be the theme this year. I posted a few photos on instagram of my decorating shenanigans yesterday. I knew once I started, it would be a huge mess and I wouldn’t get anything else done, so I hadn’t really done any of the projects that I was planning to do. I love to make things and do projects, so unless I have a pretty decent block of time, I just don’t start. Yesterday, in my morning readings I read this: “do not be weighed down by the clutter in your life; lots of little chores to do sometime, in no particular order. If you focus too much on these petty tasks, trying to get them all out of the way, you will discover that they are endless. They can eat up as much time as you devote to them.” and ending with this: “Let my Presence bring order to your thoughts, infusing Peace into your entire being”. December 19 from Jesus Calling by Sarah Ann Young. It was just what I needed to remind myself that the ongoing list (mine is a tangible list sitting right in my sight on my desk) will never end…so if there are things that I want to do, not on the list, I need to be mindful. So I took the time to glitter and paint and create things. That makes me so happy. The whole time I was doing my thing, I was also focused on the true reason for this season. A holy night with a bright star in the sky and a humble Savior coming down for us. I felt true peace and a sense of awe.
Last night I put a tree up in our bedroom. I have not had a tree in the bedroom in many years. Tom was snoozing in his chair on the main floor, so I was able to get it all up, lit and decorated before he came up. I shut all the lights off except the tree and it truly is magical. I felt like a kid, surprising him with the tree all adorned.
I’ve always loved white trees, so when the one that I had my eye on was half price, I went for it. So glad I did! It’s so pretty. Now I want another one for the main floor!
Today, I’m planning to photograph the house and share a little Christmas home tour in the next few days. The sun just popped out, so it should be a good day for photos.
Melissa S – This sounds like an amazing class! I’d love to win a spot. Thanks for the chance. 2peas – lissa_a_smith
