today is a difficult day for our family. brooke and josh got morgan before they were married 9 years ago. she has been a faithful, loving member of their family. she forever has a piece of my heart because of her loyalty to my children and grandchildren. the kids could literally climb on her and use her as a backrest as they watched sesame or dora, and she didn’t get annoyed or act put out. she would just allow them to do whatever. payton will be 8 tomorrow and he has never known life without morgan. none of the kids have. we are all such animal lovers, particularly fond of dogs. she was such a special, sweet tempered girl. we will miss you morgan. i pray that all dogs really do go to heaven.

February 26, 2010 - 9:49 am Angie Lucas - I'm so sorry to hear this, Becky. We lost our wonderful Ruby in October, and it still makes my heart hurt. I'm very sorry for your family's loss. If you don't have Dog Heaven by Cynthia Rylant, this children's book can be SUCH a comfort. It makes me cry every time I read it, but it is so sweet and tender, and it's helpful for children AND adults. http://www.amazon.com/Dog-Heaven-Cynthia-Rylant/dp/0590417010/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1267202858&sr=8-1

February 26, 2010 - 10:23 am Kim - Hi Becky, My heart and well wishes go out to you during this difficult time. I know how your family feels. I lost my beloved dog last April, two weeks after I lost my cat of 14 years. It was a very very difficult time for me and it has been a long year of grieving. Just tell your family to keep their favorite memories of her tucked close inside their hearts and she will never really be completely gone. We planted a tree in our yard for each of our pets last year, and this spring we told the kids that we will place their ashes under their trees. We are also going to raise painted monarch butterflies (from those kits you can order) and release them by their trees this spring when we bury their ashes. It somehow completes the circle for me and seems a fitting tribute to my fur babies. Time certainly does heal in its own way. I still miss them more than words can say, but we very recently adopted both a cat and a dog from the humane society and our house is once again full. It finally felt like the time was right to open our hearts again and I'm so glad that we did. Our new fur babies are simply wonderful and I think my dog would be happy that I have a new dog to love. I finally feel healed. Best of luck to your family. Your dog was lucky to have had them as her family for so many years, and I'm sure she continues to watch over them in her own way. Sincerely, Kim P.S. I love it when you show animal photos...it makes me so happy inside:)

February 27, 2010 - 7:49 am Ginny - I'm so sorry about your dog. I had never really been an animal lover until we bought my daughter a kitten 16 years ago. This little creature somehow wiggled it way into my heart. I inherited him when my daughter went to college & then into an apartment. He has very much become my cat. He is suffering from heart failure & fluid builds up in his lungs. The vet has drained the fluid twice. Patch is doing so much better & enjoys laying in the sun in front yard. I know his days are numbered & we will soon have to put him to sleep. But for now I just cherish him.

February 27, 2010 - 8:13 am Patti Mullican - i'm sure there's a special place in heaven for those animals we cherish. thinking of you all...
