i keep reminding myself that it’s friday. i think because i started the day at a garage sale and then went to one of my favorite shops (more about that in a minute), and then on to a family photoshoot. more of a typical saturday. plus tom has the day off. i’m loading the photos from the shoot and thinking about how perfect it worked out. the skies were overcast and then the minute i finished shooting and we climbed the steps to the loft, it started raining. not just a little bit, it’s pouring! so thank you Lord! they drove a bit of a distance, so i’m glad it worked out. can’t wait to look over the photos!
so i’m going to break one of my cardinal thrifting rules today. (i’m planning to do a *b* list on thrifting tips and ideas tuesday) i mentioned a while ago that the owner of one of my favorite shops was going to let me use some super cool vintage chairs that they had for a shoot or two, maybe more? so here’s the thing. i normally do not share my favorite shops with anyone except my closest buds. i guess because i like that it’s *my secret* and maybe i’ll find a one of a kind item that no one else will know about? silly i know, but i have to admit that that has been my mentality. and to be honest when i have shared in the past, there have been times when it has sort of ruined it for me. when a junk store is *found* by the masses, it typically loses something for me. hopefully that won’t happen with the treasure that i’m about to share. the reason i decided to share it (it’s not that big of a secret to locals anyway!) is because i want them to succeed and stay open for many many years! they only open once a month for a weekend and then we have to wait another month for them to open again. it’s called “the estate dispersal store” and it’s located north of our shopping mall on yager road. each month it’s like a whole new store and anything that is left from the previous month is marked down. i bought a chair and otteman, books and a velvet flower covered vintage hat this morning. the owner, denise is SO nice! in the midst of receiving 5 last minute loads of furniture last night, she let me slip in and take a chair for a shoot. she did not have to do that! most people probably would have said, “listen, we’re slammed here, get lost”. but she was as nice as she could be and welcomed us in. so i want them to do well. they work hard and deserve good things to come their way. here’s a cool cuckoo clock they have-
right now they have quite a few beautiful vintage furniture pieces, typewriters (for under $10), books, glassware and fun art. of course they have much more, but those are the kinds of things i’m drawn to. check it out….but don’t get there before me next month!
wednesday night, tom came with me on a family photo shoot at mahoney state park. neither of us had been there in years, so it was fun to see how it had changed and to be reminded of how pretty the land is. the shoot was great fun and they happened to pick a spot where the horses are grazing after stable hours, so all these horses came galloping across the pasture during the shoot. sometimes it can be challenging to do large family groups, but that wasn’t the case with this family, they were all really easy to work with-
these two are celebrating 50 years of marriage this summer. and i love the way he still looks at her.
these two are responsible for the blue eyed cutie above.
it was so good to see jill (pictured above). she’s an OLD friend (ha!) of my good friend kay!
the shoot went so well! i always get a little nervous about shooting larger groups, but this group made it easy!
after the shoot tom and i took our time and enjoyed checking out the horses and driving through the park. then we ate at the park restaurant and just thoroughly enjoyed our laidback time together.
hey, it’s the weekend, so enjoy it!
God bless!
