*b* list of recent notables…

vague, right? I have been compiling a list of widely ranging things that have caught my attention recently. I do love lists.

*b* list of recent notables:

  • Mini Boden. I’ve always enjoyed looking at their wonderful catalogs and the online catalog, but recently, as I looked through the catalog, several things occurred to me. 1. The clothes are truly for children and not flirtatious or inappropriate. They are actually wholesome, but not prudish. Colorful, playful and full of patterns, not too matchy. 2. They are inspiring to look at. I’ve actually been inspired to make things when I look at the ruffles, applique designs, and layering. I’ve also been inspired by the photos…so carefree and full of movement. One never knows when or what will inspire.
  • JCP. What in the world is going on with JCPenneys? The first clue for me that something was different was when Donna mentioned the new catalog. She was impressed with it and thought they had stepped up their game. I filed that away and then a few days later, a commercial caught my eye. I was enthralled with it and couldn’t wait to see what company was behind it…super clever, with clean scenes and fun music. NOT the screaming one!

I ended up shopping a little. I picked up these and this. $26 total. Seriously. I’ll let you know how it works out. I haven’t purchased anything from jcp since grade school. But this new ad campaign got my attention.

  • Jason Wu for Target.  We stopped by a small Target store to check it out, but by 2 in the afternoon there was very little left, and only large sizes. A couple of items that I liked weren’t available online, so I’m out on this one. I did score when Missoni hit Target, so I guess I’ll be happy with that.
  • ALT Design Summit. I’ve enjoyed reading all of the recaps on various blogs. Very fun to live vicariously! She shared up and coming blogs. She shared favorite cards. She shared her thoughts and feelings. and my most favorite of all, she shared highlights and quotes…so that some of us who weren’t there, could learn and be inspired. I especially loved the quote from Joslyn about how there’s room for everyone. That is the attitude that I’ve tried to have about photography- especially locally. I get annoyed with anyone who slams their peers and contemporaries. That’s fear and insecurity rearing it’s ugly head. I try not to allow even a subtle bit of this into my business. Positive begets positive.
  • One more recent notable…

David is already 5 months old!

Such a sweet baby boy.

I hope your day is going well!

God bless!

Angela - Ahh Becky such wonderful posts! I had to catch up on three! You have such mad skills I love that baby shower vignette! I DID notice some of your scrapbook work in the Jenny Bowlin display, too. I had to laugh because I hate the screaming JCP commercial, too. They must’ve snagged the Target marketing team because they are very similiar. I would have loved to purchase any of that collection at Target but … wasn’t there :)
Hope you have a blessed week, my friend

    Renae Reis - Hey Becky,
Great list today! I have been buying Mini Boden since Max was about a year old. His first “real” coat came from there and it lasted him two winters (until he grew out of it) and then Owen wore it (another two winters). It still hangs in the closet downstairs (in case?) and it still looks like it did the day I bought it! I thought it was a splurge at $48 (It was $60 but I had a promo code) but justified it for two years. Their tshirts are QUALITY and such fun things on them (skulls, the Union Jack, etc.) plus I always have something on my kids that other people don’t.

I also am loving the JCP stuff. If you read their new catalog you’ll see that they’re marking stuff down for the entire calendar month so you don’t have to worry about coupons or getting to the store between Sunday and Saturday. Genius. Their stuff is also looking better all of the time. I’m still not crazy about their website but maybe they’ll revamp that in time as well.

Can’t believe David is 5 months already. I still remember Tom waiting around at home for me to pick up my canvases and telling me how you guys were on baby watch!! :) They grow too fast.
