because i need it. working at home is the most awesome thing, but it also means that organization is a constant issue, at least for me. so i’ve been “collecting” organzational tips and ideas, and thought maybe you would find them helpful as well.
*b* list of organizational ideas and tips
- throw out 50 things. when i first heard about this book, i knew that it was for me. mainly because i need a clearcut focus. when i was a little girl, my mom made a game of picking up toys that involved counting 50 toys that had been picked up and placed in the toybox. she suckered me into picking up every time with that game! i still like the idea! i thought it might be fun to involve a group of friends and challenge each other to do this.
- getting your act together by holly on decor8 holly can share a simple blog post and motivate me every time!
- martha’s organization tip a day you can sign up to receive martha’s organizing tip a day via email. for me, even if i don’t use the tip she suggests, it’s a reminder that i need to be thinking of solutions to my organizational issues. plus, it’s martha….and i love pretty much everything she does.
- hgtv quick tips for everyday organization #8 needs to be a priority around here. it accummulates and drives me crazy!
- this closet organizing video i think i shared this video a couple of years ago…but it still inspires and motivates me. i think that her philosophy is dead-on.
- get a fresh perspective. we all get used to our messes and clutter. we don’t even see it after a while. so, i think it’s a great idea to have a friend come by and take a fresh look. i have a couple of friends who i know would be honest with me if i asked them to do this. i haven’t actually done it yet, but i think i need to! i think it would be a great feeling to find a friend who wants to get organized and do a swap. it would probably be helpful to be on sort of the same level and not vastly different on levels of organization.
- my personal system. in the past, the thing that has worked best for me as far as organizing goes, has been to do one thing every day. for example, i would tackle one small task every day until i had accomplished each area of my home. i haven’t done this in WAY too long, but i know that for me this works. even if it’s one drawer a day. it gives a sense of accomplishment and doesn’t overwhelm.
i’d love to hear your best organizing solutions. sometimes just visiting a friend who has recently done something organizational inspires me as much as anything….so hearing from you would probably have the same effect!
last week, i met up with our niece sarah, her two adorable kiddos and tom’s sister/my sister-in-law jean to get gavin’s 6 month shots as well as a possible Christmas photo of the two kids. i had harper’s grandparent’s day right before the photo session, so i just brought harper with me to the loft. she is always soooo good for me one on one, so i didn’t even give it a thought that she wouldn’t be the center of my attention. i think she was a little jealous : ) in spite of the chaos of a two year old, a baby and a slightly jealous granddaughter, i think the photos turned out really sweet!
oh how i love this shot.
i always knew sarah would be the best mom…..she is just so nurturing and loving….and she IS an awesome mom. i think the look on her face in this shot is the epitome of the love of a wonderful mom.
such big beautiful eyes!
in the end, we stayed and did a very mini-shoot of harper. and that made her happy.
love the boots. i need some.
have a great day and God bless!
