short and sweet, but it’s here.
it’s based on the fact that we all get set in our ways, even if we think we don’t.
*b* list - i dare you!
- to buy a pair of *completely adorable, not sensible at all* shoes. this challenge is based on the influence of bridgette (see yesterday’s post/photos) to hear er talk about how bridgette climbed up in her attic with huge wedges makes me smile even today. sometimes it feels good to NOT be practical. i like these.
- go to a movie on a weeknight. to some of you that may seem like a simple dare, but i think a lot of us get in a rut and think we can only go out on weekends. tom and i love to go to a weeknight movie. plus, it’s way less busy.
- sign up for a class or retreat without a friend by your side. i think it’s so good to get out of our comfort zones. when i have done this in the past, it has given me such a feeling of empowerment and self confidence.
- read something challenging. maybe a classic or something that is more intellectual than your average read. i know that the book, “how to read the Bible for all it’s worth” really challenged me. now, i’m going to attempt to read “divine conspiracy” again. i bought it quite a few years ago because a friend recommended it….but i wasn’t spiritually ready for it at the time. i hope i am now! i read a lot of fluff, so sometimes it’s good to read something a little deeper.
- have an indepth conversation. i really don’t enjoy small talk. i like to get to the heart of things. i know some aren’t comfortable with that, but for me, it’s the only way to have meaningful relationships. tom and i sit outside almost every night and have indepth convo. we also talk about a lot of nonsense and laugh a bunch. last night, we were sitting on the front porch laughing about the most stupid stuff…like this lady who rode by on her bike looking all formal and as she rode by she looked at us (we were sitting in the dark, thinking no one would even notice us) and said, “good evening”. it was so bizarre! but typically we drift from nonsense to meaningful pretty effortlessly. i like that.
- listen to music. i talk to a lot of people who never take the time to put music on when they’re cooking dinner or sitting by the pool or cleaning the house. how sad! i think it’s sort of like forgetting to light candles, or put on lotion after a hot bath.
- get on the floor with the kids. tom and i always get on the floor with our grandchildren. we would miss such great snuggles if we didn’t do this! tom wrestles, i let them climb on me and mess with my hair and we both grab them and smother them with kisses. i think a lot of adults miss this.
- windowshop. it’s visual, it’s inspiring and it’s free! tom and i were out one night and i asked him to stop on the street that the loft is on(there are several antique stores on the block). i wanted to show him a canvas that i was smitten with. we parked the car and ended up walking along the street peeking in all the windows. nothing was open, so the temptation to buy wasn’t even an option. (although i did go back the next day and bought the canvas!) i got a screaming deal! and i have no regrets.
- go on a day trip. even if a real vacation isn’t an option, a day trip is probably doable. we do daytrips fairly often. during wedding season, it’s almost impossible for me to get away for more than a day. but a day away can be incredibly refreshing. we found a destination that is mutually satisfying for us. there’s a killer antique mall with a harley dealership a few miles away. it’s only about 2 hours away, so we can do it easily in a day.
- make a date with someone you haven’t seen or hung out with in a long time. we all have those friends. friends who we enjoy being with, but who we’ve lost touch with. i am taking the challenge on today. i am going to give it some thought and get in touch with someone i miss. i’m not just going to think about it and have good intentions….i’m going to go forward and do it! i challenge you to too!
i’m dying to share these images! i actually get butterflies when i think about them. i am so, so grateful that i have such gut feelings about what i get to do. i feel so alive and so passionate about it! if i believed in “good luck” (which i don’t), i would say i’m a lucky, lucky girl….but since i don’t, i will say i feel super blessed about life right now. it’s been a crazy busy summer of shooting more weddings than ever before, but i am thriving on it! it is such a seasonal thing for me, that i know there is a slow down coming soon. for now, i will savor each one. the wedding i shot this past weekend was another dreamy one. i absolutely adore the bride and groom. they are quality people….and not just in a worldly sort of way. they share my faith and live it to the fullest….without any of the stereotypical negatives that can get in the way of what i believe the Bible stands for. i left their big day feeling inspired and full of hope.
be still my heart! what a joy to capture this 40s inspired, vintage glam wedding, complete with the personal details of grandma’s brooches for the bride and her sisters/attendants, grandpa’s cuff links for the groom and his brothers, the bride’s extremely custom dress made by her talented mom, the dance with her father prior to the ceremony….and so many other perfectly thought out and executed ideas. thank you phil and monae for having me photograph your day….it was a complete joy, that i’m still basking in.
with that, i will say: have a great day and God bless!
